Reindeer grow a new set of antlers every year. While the antlers are covered in velvet the antlers are alive and there is blood running through them. When they start to shed the velvet (normally before the rutting season) the antler hardens and eventually falls off. All this in one year.Reindeer are the only species of deer where both the male and female grow antlers. An adult male's antlers can weigh over 20lbs before they drop.Reindeer are ruminants like sheep, cows and goats.Male reindeer are called bulls and females cows.Oh and the most important fact - reindeer can only fly on Christmas Eve!!!
